My favorite book that I read over the summer was Every Day by David Levithan. it was about a person who switched bodies every day and lived the life of the person whose body he lived in for 24 hours. He tried to avoid getting involved in their lives until he met a girl in one persons body and fell in love with her. They tried to navigate their relationship throughout the book. For many reasons, I think that the relationship between these two characters was strong enough to last through all of the challenges they faced.
The first reason that they could have figured out a way around the challenges was because they were so willing to try to make it work. The main plot in this book was the relationship between A, the main character, and Rhiannon, the girl he fell in love with. When they first met, he was in the body of her boyfriend and used his ability to access her boyfriend's memories. By using his memories and getting to know her, he saw that he didn't deserve her, and he immediately started to fall for her. A stated that he always moved onto the next body as soon as the day ended, but after meeting Rhiannon he decided he needed to see her again. He started going out of his way to see her, at a party, at coffee shops, at her school. A was willing to start going out of his way to have a relationship with her. Rhiannon also showed that she was going to try very hard to have a relationship with A. When he was in the body of her boyfriend Justin, she stated that she had a great time with him, better than she'd had with Justin. Later in the book, he met up with her and told her all about how he switched bodies every day. After some proof she believed him, and wanted to stay in touch with him. She was also willing to go to lengths to see him; driving hours to see him, lying to friends to be able to meet up with him, and breaking up with Justin in order to have a relationship with him. Both of them were willing to work very hard to be together.
Another reason that A and Rhiannons relationship worked out for a long time was because although it took a long time for them to admit it, especially Rhiannon, they truly loved each other and had positive impacts on each others lives. For A, it was love at first sight. He took an immediate infatuation to her, and he needed to get to know her. As he did, he realized how much he wanted to have her in his very strange life. Having somebody in his life who loved him, understood him, and knew what happened to him each day made him happier and gave him a reason to keep going. It quotes "It's as if when you love someone, they become your reason." Rhiannon was his reason to keep going each day, and he loved her very much and wanted to be with her for that. For Rhiannon, it took some time for her to get used to the idea of being with someone who switched bodies every day, but she realized how much A meant to her. She said that "the way he looked at her couldn't have been anyone else, and she said that he had done so much for her (made sacrifices to meet up with her, helped her by ending her relationship with Justin) and she said that without the challenge of him changing bodies, she could have loved him forever. A and Rhiannon had a very loving, healthy relationship that could have lasted a very long time without the challenges.
In conclusion, A and Rhiannon had a very strong, loving relationship where they both wanted very much to make it work. Despite the huge obstacles, they made their relationship work for a long time and probably could have made it work even longer, although it was very difficult.
